Superstar soprano Deborah Voigt's one-woman show, developed with playwright Terrence McNally and director Francesca Zambello, weaves songs and arias into a vivid and often moving account of her life and career with music direction by Kevin Stites.

Book Signing

Following both performances, meet soprano Deborah Voigt as she signs copies of Call Me Debbie: True Confessions of a Down-to-Earth Diva. In this strikingly honest memoir, Voigt recounts her harrowing and ultimately successful battles to overcome the addictions and self-destructive tendencies that nearly cut short her life. Offering fascinating insight into the roles she has played and the characters she loves, along with hilarious anecdotes and juicy backstage gossip, Voigt paints diverting portraits of the artists with whom she has worked, her most memorable moments onstage and the secrets of her singing.

Copies of Call Me Debbie will be available for purchase in the Bryan Education Studio following the performance or through the Opera Shop.

"There was a seismic event and emotional roller coaster onstage.... The crowd proceeded to go crazy. The piece—so simple, yet brilliantly calibrated."

"With Kevin Stites at the piano and under the skillful guidance of director Richard Jay-Alexander, the evening unfolded, before your very eyes, as this world renowned Opera Star told her story and sang her songs. It also looked and sounded amazing."

"Ms. Voigt is a down-to-earth woman with an ebullient personality who communicates best through her music. In Voigt Lessons she gives a chatty, witty and sometimes painfully poignant account of her life, starting with her childhood as a daughter of devout Baptist parents in Wheeling, Ill., weaving in performances of inspirational songs, art songs, show songs and bits of arias accompanied by Mr. Stites: 18 in all."
