TANNHAUSER

Performed at the War Memorial Opera House in 2007

Which would you choose: true love — or endless passion in the lap of the goddess Venus? Travel back to a time of knights and pilgrims, sirens and sprites with the medieval fantasy Tannhäuser, by Richard Wagner.

This 2007 production was only seen once on the San Francisco Opera stage, making its costumes a rare collectible for the opera savvy. Lightweight imitation chain mail — custom made in New Zealand — blends with a riot of patterns, prints and fabrics to evoke the warrior spirit of Wagner’s epic tale.
