The third performance of every mainstage opera during the 2024-25 Season will be available to view as a livestream.

See below for the livestream and on-demand schedule.

Tickets

Tickets for each livestream performance are $27.50.

Each livestream ticket purchase includes access to the livestream recording, which will be available after the performance and will air for a 48-hour on-demand period.

Please see below for the schedule for each performance as some on-demand periods do not begin the day after the livestream.

San Francisco Opera provides livestream capabilities for the following devices:

San Francisco Front Row is available online, mobile, and your SmartTV.

Steps for watching the livestream

1. Find the type of device you want to watch the livestream.
2. Download the application for your device.
3. Run the application to find your livestream.

Search for: 'SFO Front Row' -- you should select your request and the Front Row app will show up a few rows into the search results. You can also use FireTV's web browser by navigating to 'frontrow.sfopera.com'.

This is a physical device that has a built in HDMI cable, is less expensive than an Apple TV, and you can also access the FrontRow app after downloading it from Amazon's App Store.
Search for: 'san fr' -- you should see the Front Row app show up in the search results.

Livestreaming on a Samsung SmartTV is only possible on certain units.

Maintaining the FrontRow app on a Samsung SmartTV is significantly more complicated as they are each certified separately. Because of this, our vendors are only able to maintain the application on televisions built within the last two (2) years.

Samsung's last update was November 18, 2024¹.
2023 Smart TV model groups

The current list of available TVs, as of their last update, is as follows:
Basic, Standard, and Premium models for
Tizen: 2021, 2022, and 2023

If your application will not load and/or is not findable in the AppStore, or you have a newer model (and not one listed here) then you may also be affected.

If your application is loaded but just spinning - then (1) restart your Television and, if that doesn't work, (2) please uninstall and reinstall the application from your Samsung SmartTV's AppStore.

¹San Francisco Opera will eventually drop support for Samsung TV's due to the extreme complications on app certification by the manufacturer.

General Questions

A livestream is a live recording that is coming straight to you from the War Memorial Opera House! The performance is happening at the same time you are seeing it. We typically livestream the third performance of every opera.

Take a look at the Livestream Schedule for country availability information, dates of the livestream and dates for the on demand period of the performance you wish to view.

Yes! There is typically an on demand period, when livestream ticketholders can watch a recording of the livestream performance during a 48-hour access window. For the 2024–25 Season, the 48-hour on demand period varies per performance—see the Livestream Schedule for details.

Please note:
- We are unable to provide access to the livestream recording beyond the scheduled 48-hour on demand period. No exceptions.
- Any concert we livestream will not have an on demand period.
You will have received a confirmation email that has a link to your livestream at the time of purchase. Additionally, we send out a second email the day of the performance (please check your spam folder).

Until the performance begins, you can also access the ticket in your [Upcoming Performances] tab when you log in and click on "Account".

SF Opera Front Row is now available on Apple TV, Amazon Firestick, Samsung, and Android TV. For Chromecast, make sure you are accessing the stream through your Chrome internet browser. Once the video is loaded on your computer, click "View" in the navigation bar of Chrome and then click on "Cast."

A small window should show up called "Cast Tab" on the right corner of your browser page and the name of your connected television should be listed there.

Click the name of your TV and the video should show up on your television.

Please see the top of this page for information about which apps are available.
Yes! English subtitles are available on the video player. To see subtitles, click the gear symbol at the bottom righthand part of the screen near the play/pause button. Unfortunately subtitles in other languages aren’t available at this time.

How to turn on or off subtitles:

How to cast from your computer to a SmartTV

This video provides a general overview and demonstrates how to Screen Cast and Mirror using Airplay, Chromecast (4.4.2 and newer), Apple TV, Android, FireTV, Mirrorcast, and Game Consoles.

On your Desktop or Laptop browser:
This is probably because your screen's scale is to high or your resolution is too small .
Don't worry, we can work through this.

The Fix: Windows
1. Go to your desktop and right-click somewhere that is not an icon (and empty area of the desktop).
2. Click on "Display Settings", then look for this:

Scale: Alot of people change the Scale to zoom in so they can see larger text . If you put it to the "(Recommended)" size (probably 150%) - then you can reload your browser and it should load.

Display Resolution: Your display resolution must be 1,200px or greater or you may not be able to see Front Row in your browser properly.

The Fix: Apple

On a mobile browser:
This is happening because the form factor (screen size) of your device is too small to properly render Front Row.

The Fix: Mobile devices
Go to the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play to download the app.
Search for "SFO Front Row" and you should find it. Just install it and enjoy the show!
A fast and reliable broadband internet connection is required. For streaming content, your download speed should be at least 1.5mbps or 5mbps for optimal or HD video quality.

There are many free tools available online to test your internet speed, including SpeedTest.net. For streaming content, your download speed should be at least 1.5mbps, or 5mbps for optimal or HD video quality.

Other tips for internet issues:
- If you are using Wifi, you can try connecting to the internet with a hard-wired connection.
- Close other applications on your device and disconnect other devices using the same WiFi network.
- Reset and/or turn off and restart your modem and/or router.
- Move your devices closer to your WiFi router.
- Check your internet browser:
If you are having problems in one browser (Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Safari), try a different one.
- Clear browser cache and/or close and restart your browser.
- Close other tabs in your browser.
- Update your internet browser to the latest version.
- Update your device's operating system (OS) to the latest version.
When you stream something from another device like iMac or iPhone to your Apple TV, the subtitle setting on your original device is disregarded the moment of the switch for that movie. In order to turn on the captions on your TV, swipe down during playback on your Apple TV during playback to get to the information window with chapters, subtitle options, and audio options.

Changes there should be immediate.
Here are some additional tips if you are already equipped with mirror or casting devices to send content from your computer, tablet, or smartphone to your TV:

Chromecast
If you have a Chromecast dongle or a smart TV with with built-in Chromecast support, you can cast apps and Chrome web pages from your phone to your television with a few taps. In order to do this, your phone must be on the same Wi-Fi network as your streaming dongle or smart TV.

Apple TV does not work with Google Cast.

AirPlay
