SFOpera - "Quando le sere al placido" from Luisa Miller

"Quando le sere al placido" from Luisa Miller

Our dear friend Placido Domingo recently celebrated his 74th birthday. In celebration of his birthday, we thought we’d share this special video of the brilliant tenor performing one of his signature arias, “Quando le sere al placido.” In this show-stopping aria, Rodolfo has received a letter from Luisa saying that she never loved him. He is crushed and reminisces about the happy times they had together.

Maestro Domingo sang this aria numerous times in concert as an encore, and overtime the piece became associated with the superstar tenor.

Luisa Miller returns to the War Memorial Opera House Stage this coming fall in Francesca Zambello’s bold San Francisco Opera production designed by Michael Yeargan and directed by Laurie Feldman.

A super star cast led by soprano Leah Crocetto as Luisa Miller and tenor Michael Fabiano as her beloved Rodolfo. Noted Verdi veteran baritone Thomas Hampson joins the pair as Luisa’s father.
