Code of Ethics Policy

As a nonprofit organization at the forefront of opera production, San Francisco Opera’s policy is to uphold high legal and ethical standards. San Francisco Opera’s ticket buyers and donors support the Opera because they trust that the company is a good steward of their resources and upholds ethical standards of conduct. Our reputation for integrity and excellence requires the observance of applicable laws and high standards of personal conduct.

San Francisco Opera will comply with all applicable laws and expects its directors, officers, employees, affiliates and volunteers to conduct business in accordance with applicable laws; to refrain from any unethical conduct; to act in a professional, businesslike manner; and to treat others with respect and dignity.

All directors, officers, employees and volunteers have a duty to safeguard information that is proprietary to the Opera including but not limited to information about donations, artistic planning, legal matters and other strategic matters. Information about the Opera that is confidential and obtained by a director, officer, employee or volunteer as a consequence of such person’s association with the Opera will not be disclosed to any third party except as authorized by the Opera.

If a situation arises where it is difficult to determine the proper course of conduct, or where questions arise concerning the propriety of certain conduct by an individual or others, the matter should be brought to the attention of the Opera. Employees should contact their immediate supervisor and, if necessary, the director of human resources. Board members should raise any such concerns with the president of the Association.

The Opera will provide a copy of this Code of Ethics policy to every director, officer and employee, as well as volunteers as appropriate.
