Boasting one of Mozart’s greatest and most inventive scores, Don Giovanni is a fast-paced drama about a charismatic seducer whose misdeeds finally catch up with him. Renowned Italian bass-baritone Ildebrando D’Arcangelo ignites the stage with his celebrated portrayal of the libertine, Don Giovanni. The international cast also features Erin Wall as Donna Anna, Ana María Martínez as Donna Elvira, Sarah Shafer as Zerlina, Stanislas de Barbeyrac as Don Ottavio, Erik Anstine as Leporello, Michael Sumuel as Masetto and Andrea Silvestrelli as the Commendatore.

The production, which “unfolds in a driving, irresistibly propulsive flow” (Mercury News), is staged by acclaimed Italian director Jacopo Spirei and features innovative projections and set adaptations designed by German artist Tommi Brem whose resume also includes Burning Man. French conductor Marc Minkowski leads the San Francisco Opera Orchestra and Chorus.

The simulcast performance will be transmitted live from the stage of the War Memorial Opera House using state-of-the-art technology and in 1920x1080 high definition (HD) to the 103-feet wide Mitsubishi Electric Diamond Vision scoreboard in AT&T Park. Concert quality audio combined with AT&T Park’s massive screen creates a thrilling, open-air operatic experience.

Initiated by former General Director David Gockley in 2006 to bring opera into the community and reach new audiences, San Francisco Opera’s free live simulcasts have been experienced by nearly 283,000 people of all ages. The June 30 simulcast of Don Giovanni marks the 15th free simulcast presented by San Francisco Opera and the 11th at AT&T Park. Last year’s Opera at the Ballpark performance of Bizet’s Carmen drew an audience of more than 28,000.

Classical KDFC’s Dianne Nicolini and Hoyt Smith will emcee Opera at the Ballpark, which includes the 3 hour and 20 minute performance of Don Giovanni along with pre-performance and intermission programing. AT&T Park exclusives include a performance of the National Anthem by the winner of the “KDFC Star-Spangled Sing-Off,” Tammy Nelson from Beach Blanket Babylon—“the world's longest-running musical revue”—singing a special operatic version of “Take me out to the ball game,” Mozart trivia and a demonstration booth for the Smule Sing! app, including content from San Francisco Opera’s 2017 summer season. During intermission, the curtain at the War Memorial Opera House will remain up so that both theater and simulcast audiences can observe how the opera’s sets are broken down and reset for the next act.

The simulcast is free and open to the public. Pre-registered attendees with printed confirmations will be given early entrance to the stadium for best seating at 5 p.m. All others will admitted to the ballpark beginning at 6 p.m. AT&T Park concessions will be open throughout the simulcast, providing audiences the rare opportunity to pair hot dogs, peanuts and garlic fries with a live opera performance. Lawn chairs are not permitted on the field and glass containers, alcohol and hard-sided coolers will not be allowed into the ballpark. AT&T Park is accessible by public transportation. Also at AT&T Park, San Francisco Opera tenor Pene Pati will sing the National Anthem before the June 24 game between the Giants and the New York Mets. Pati is currently appearing on stage at the War Memorial Opera House as the Duke of Mantua in Verdi’s Rigoletto through Saturday, July 1.
