2018–19 Season: Production Designer of Arabella
Tobias Hoheisel designed costumes and props for San Francisco Opera’s 1982 and 1987 productions of Salome and 2006 production of Iphigénie en Tauride. The Frankfurt native studied in Berlin before launching an international design career that has taken him to major theatres and opera houses around Europe and the U.S. Recent highlights include Norma at Aalto-Musiktheater Essen, Les Troyens at Lyric Opera of Chicago, Ariadne auf Naxos and Capriccio at the Santa Fe Opera, and Orfeo ed Euridice at Théâtre des Champs-Elysées. Productions in the U.K. encompass La Bohème and The Tales of Hoffmann for English National Opera and Palestrina and Boulevard Solitude for Royal Opera, Covent Garden, the latter of which won him a Lawrence Olivier Award in 2001. Future projects include Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk at Greek National Opera and Iphigenié en Tauride at Théâtre des Champs-Elysées.
