2018–19 Season: Production Designer, Carmen
Tanya McCallin made her San Francisco Opera debut as production designer of Sweeney Todd (2015), which was also seen in Paris and Houston. She is a distinguished theater and opera designer who has worked internationally.
Her extensive opera work includes: The Barber of Seville for the English National Opera (ENO) and in Barcelona; Carmen for the Royal Opera, Covent Garden and in Oslo, Australia, and China; and La Traviata for the Bolshoi Theatre.
In collaboration with director David McVicar she designed Rigoletto for Savonlinna Opera Festival; Le Nozze di Figaro for Covent Garden and in Valencia; Turn of the Screw (ENO); Macbeth for the Mariinsky Theatre and in London, Washington, D.C., and the Metropolitan Opera; Manon for ENO and in Dallas, New Zealand, Houston, Chicago, and Barcelona; Les Contes d’Hoffmann for Salzburg Festival; La Traviata for Scottish Opera/Welsh National Opera and in Geneva, Barcelona, Madrid; the sets for Semele at Théâtre des Champs-Elysées; costumes for Così fan tutte in Strasbourg; Rigoletto for Covent Garden and in Madrid; and Der Rosenkavalier for Scottish Opera.
She has been associated with theater works by Arthur Miller, Pam Gems, Mike Leigh, Chekhov, Sheridan, and Shakespeare.
