Jose Maria Condemi made his San Francisco Opera debut in 2005 with Così fan tutte, and he has returned to direct productions of Carmen, Madama Butterfly, Faust, Tosca, Un Ballo in Maschera, and the world premiere of Nolan Gasser’s The Secret Garden. Other notable engagements include Ernani and Tristan und Isolde at Lyric Opera of Chicago; Aida at Houston Grand Opera; Orphée et Eurydice and La Bohème at Seattle Opera; Osvaldo Golijov’s Ainadamar and Don Giovanni at Cincinnati Opera; André Previn’s A Streetcar Named Desire at Kentucky Opera; and Carmen at Central City Opera and Lyric Opera of Kansas City. Condemi is the Carol Franc Buck Distinguished Chair at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. He was also the artistic director of Opera Santa Barbara from 2010 until 2015 where he oversaw artistic planning and its studio artists program.Upcoming engagements include Rigoletto at New Orleans Opera, Le Nozze di Figaro at San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and Robert Xavier Rodríguez’s Frida at Florida Grand Opera.
