Constance Hoffman made her San Francisco Opera debut in 1997 with this production and returned in 2013 for the world premiere of Mark Adamo’s The Gospel of Mary Magdalene. Her credits include theater collaborations with Mark Lamos, Julie Taymor, Eliot Feld, and Mikhail Baryshnikov; opera directors Robert Carsen, David Alden, Christopher Alden, and Keith Warner; and entertainer Bette Midler. On her Broadway debut, she earned a Tony nomination and an Outer Critics Circle Award for her designs for The Green Bird, directed by Julie Taymor. Hoffman’s collaborations in opera have taken her to Glyndebourne Festival Opera, Paris Opéra, New Israeli Opera in Tel Aviv, and Bavarian State Opera in Munich, among others. In the U.S., she has designed costumes for Santa Fe Opera, Houston Grand Opera, Los Angeles Opera, Minnesota Opera, Portland Opera, Opera Theatre of St. Louis, Lincoln Center Festival, and she has had a long association with the Glimmerglass Festival in Cooperstown, New York.
