2018–19 Season: Choreographer, Rusalka
Andrew George made his San Francisco Opera debut in 2015 with his choreography for Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg and returned in 2016 for Andrea Chénier.
His British opera credits include Andrea Chénier, Les Troyens, Adriana Lecouvreur, and Salome for Royal Opera, Covent Garden; Turn of the Screw, Agrippina, The Handmaid’s Tale, and Die Walküre for English National Opera; Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, Giulio Cesare, and Carmen for Glyndebourne Festival Opera; Der Rosenkavalier, The Rake’s Progress, and La Traviata for Scottish Opera.
His work has also been featured in Metropolitan Opera productions of Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Giulio Cesare, Cavalleria Rusticana, Pagliacci, Anna Bolena, and Don Giovanni. Other notable opera credits include: Don Giovanni for Opera Australia; Tristan und Isolde in Tokyo and Vienna; Wozzeck and Rusalka in Chicago; Don Carlos in Frankfurt; L’Incoronazione di Poppea for Théâtre des Champs-Élysées and in Berlin, Brussels, and Copenhagen; Les Contes d’Hoffmann in Salzburg, Tannhäuser at Milan’s Teatro alla Scala; and Der Ring des Nibelungen for Opéra National du Rhin.
George’s original choreography has been recently revived for Carmen at Dallas Opera, Adriana Lecouvreur at the Metropolitan Opera, Giulio Cesare at Glyndebourne, Andrea Chénier for Barcelona, and Salome at Covent Garden.
His upcoming projects include reviving Rusalka for Canadian Opera Company and Don Carlos for Teatro Real in Madrid.
George worked as a dancer for Matthew Bourne for several years before beginning his career as an opera choreographer.
