2018–19 Season: Lighting Designer, Arabella and Rusalka

David Finn made his San Francisco Opera debut in 2002 with Alcina, and he returned the following season for productions of Doktor Faust and Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk. Other opera work includes projects for the Metropolitan Opera; Royal Opera, Covent Garden; Paris Opéra, Milan’s Teatro alla Scala; Salzburg Festival; Lyric Opera of Chicago; Berlin Staatsoper; Brussells’ La Monnaie; Dutch National Opera; Stuttgart Opera; Opera Australia; and Canadian Opera Company. He began his career as a lighting designer for the puppeteer Burr Tillstrom and Kukla, Fran and Ollie. His previous work with the National Ballet of Canada includes The Firebird, Terra Firma, and La Baiser de la Fée for choreographer James Kudelka; and Being and Nothingness and The Little Prince for Guillaume Cote. Other dance projects include The Nutcracker (Birmingham Royal Ballet), Roméo et Juliette (Paris Opéra Ballet), and collaborations with choreographers Paul Taylor, Twyla Tharp, Sasha Waltz, Merce Cunningham, José Limón, Helgi Tomasson, Liam Scarlett, and Dana Reitz. He was resident lighting designer for Mikhail Baryshnikov’s White Oak Dance Project from 1993 to 2000. Recent and upcoming work encompasses Tosca at the Metropolitan Opera, Pique Dame at Royal Danish Ballet, Swan Lake at Royal Ballet, and The Crucible at Scottish Ballet.
