2017–18 Season: Director and Costume Designer of Manon
Vincent Boussard made his San Francisco Opera directorial debut in 2012 with I Capuleti e i Montecchi. He began as a stage director at the Studio Theatre of the Comédie-Française in 1999, and his first opera staging was Dido and Aeneas with Les Arts Florissants in Paris and New York. Since then, his work has appeared at the Handel Festival in Halle (Floridante); Berlin State Opera (Agrippina, Candide, The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny); Bavarian State Opera, Graz Opera, Frankfurt Opera (Adriana Lecouvreur, Gluck’s Ezio); Hamburg State Opera (Madama Butterfly, La Fanciulla del West); Theater an der Wien (Radamisto); Innsbruck and Baden-Baden Festivals (Don Giovanni); Royal Opera House, Stockholm (Carmen); Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie (Il Re Pastore, Eliogabalo, Frühlingserwachen), Théâtre National du Capitole (La Favorite, Un Ballo in Maschera); Opéra National du Rhin (Louise, Les Pêcheurs de Perles, L'Amico Fritz); Aix-en-Provence Festival (Le Nozze di Figaro, La Finta Giardiniera); and New National Theater in Tokyo (La Traviata). Recent engagements have taken him to the Lithuanian National Opera Theatre for Manon, Salzburg Festival for Otello, and Paris’ Theater St. Gallen for Lohengrin. In 2017, he directs Otello at the Semperoper Dresden and Hamlet at Opéra de Lausanne.
