2018–19 Season: Baron Scarpia in Tosca

Baritone Scott Hendricks made his San Francisco Opera debut in 2004 as Marcello in La Bohème. An esteemed interpreter of Puccini and Verdi, Hendricks has also performed Sharpless in Madama Butterfly at the Metropolitan Opera, Houston Grand Opera, and Washington National Opera; Scarpia at the Opéra National de Paris, Munich’s Bavarian State Opera, the Bregenz Festival, Israeli Opera, Oper Stuttgart, and Royal House, Covent Garden; the title role of Macbeth at Brussels’ La Monnaie and Dutch National Opera; the title role of Rigoletto at Houston Grand Opera; Amonasro in Aida at Houston Grand Opera and Canadian Opera Company; and Rodrigue in Don Carlos at Houston Grand Opera, Welsh National Opera, Canadian Opera Company, and Oper Köln. His many role creations include Hamlet III in Wolfgang Rihm’s Die Hamletmaschine for Zurich Opera House and the title role of Giorgio Battistelli’s Richard III for Opera Vlaanderen. Highlights of the 2018–19 season include returns to La Monnaie as Barnaba in La Gioconda and Victor Frankenstein in Mark Grey’s Frankenstein. He also sings the title role of Rigoletto at the Bregenz Festival and the role of the Murderer in the world premiere of Mortiz Eggert’s M – Eine Stadt sucht einen Mörder at Berlin’s Komische Oper.
