2017-18 Season: Gutrune in Götterdämmerung
American soprano Melissa Citro made her San Francisco Opera debut in the Company’s 2011 Ring in which she sang the roles of Freia in Das Rheingold, Ortlinde in Die Walküre, and Gutrune in Götterdämmerung. In the 2015–16 season, she made her Washington National Opera debut as Gutrune, returned to New Orleans Opera as Rosalinde in Die Fledermaus, and made her debut with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra in Mahler’s Second Symphony. A 2001 graduate of the Merola Opera Program, Citro also recently performed the title role of Rusalka with New Orleans Opera and the title role of La Wally in her debut with The Dallas Opera. Future engagements include Minnie in La Fanciulla del West with Michigan Opera Theatre and Opera Colorado. Citro was a Grand Finals Winner of the 2001 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. Additional awards have included the George London Award, the Richman Award from Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, and first place winner of the Mario Lanza Competition.
