Baritone Lucas Meachem is an almunus of the Merola Opera Program and San Francisco Opera Adler Fellowship. Meachem’s appearances since his Company debut in 2004 include Dr. Malatesta in Don Pasquale, Figaro in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, the title roles of Don Giovanni and Eugene Onegin, Count Alamiva in Le Nozze di Figaro, Fritz/Frank in Die Tote Stadt, and Papageno in The Magic Flute for Kids. In 2016, he was voted winner of San Francisco Opera's inaugural Jan Shrem and Maria Manetti Shrem Emerging Stars Competition.
Meachem appears regularly at major opera houses in America, including the Metropolitan Opera, Washington National Opera, Chicago Lyric Opera, and Los Angeles Opera. Also a frequent performer in Europe, he has appeared with the Vienna Staatsoper, Royal Opera, Covent Garden, Glyndebourne Festival, Opéra National de Paris, Bayerische Staatsoper, and many other venues.
Notable performances in Meachem's American career include Chorèbe in Les Troyens, Athanaël in Thaïs, Demetrius in A Midsummer Night's Dream, and Valentin in Faust at Chicago Lyric Opera; Silvio in Pagliacci and Mercutio in Roméo and Juliette at the Metropolitan Opera; Don Giovanni with Santa Fe Opera, New Orleans Opera, and Cincinnati Opera; Zurga in Les Pêcheurs de Perles at Florida Grand Opera; and Il Barbiere di Siviglia at San Diego Opera, Opera Colorado, and Los Angeles Opera, where he also sang the role of Figaro in John Corigliano’s The Ghosts of Versailles and can be heard on that company’s Grammy Award-winning recording.
