2018–19 Season: A Fortune-Teller in Arabella

Earlier this season, mezzo-soprano Jill Grove returned to San Francisco Opera to sing the role of Mamma Lucia in Cavalleria Rusticana. Other Company appearances include the First Maidservant in Elektra, Madelon in Andrea Chénier, Grandmother Buryjovka in Jenůfa, Erda in Das Rheingold, and Preziosilla in La Forza del Destino. She has also made recent returns to Houston Grand Opera as Ježibaba in Rusalka and to Pittsburgh Opera as Baba the Turk in The Rake’s Progress. Grove is a frequent guest at the Lyric Opera of Chicago where she has sung Marthe in Faust, Margret in Wozzeck, the Witch in Hänsel und Gretel, the Nurse in Die Frau ohne Schatten, Amneris in Aida, Erda in Götterdämmerung, and Countess Geschwitz in Lulu. At the Metropolitan Opera, her performances include Erda in Siegfried and Das Rheingold, Magdalene in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, Madelon, Pantalis in Mefistofele, Emila in Otello, and Cornelia in Giulio Cesare. Later this season, she sings First Maidservant with Canadian Opera Company, returns to the Metropolitan Opera for their productions of Götterdämmerung and Dialogues des Carmélites, and performs Verdi’s Requiem with the Calgary Philharmonic.
