A winner of the 2017 Beverly Sills Artist Award, 2015 Richard Tucker Award, and 2013 BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Competition, mezzo-soprano Jamie Barton made her San Francisco Opera debut in 2014 with Adalgisa in Norma. Her recent engagements include Adalgisa at the Metropolitan Opera, Eboli in Don Carlos with Deutsche Oper Berlin, Waltraute and the Second Norn in Götterdämmerung at Washington National Opera, and Elizabeth Proctor in Robert Ward's The Crucible at the Glimmerglass Festival. Other career highlights include Meg Page (Falstaff) at Japan’s Saito Kinen Festival; Giovanna Seymour (Anna Bolena), Magdalene (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg), and roles in Les Contes d’Hoffmann, Boris Godunov, and Ariadne auf Naxos with Lyric Opera of Chicago; the Second Norn and Mère Marie (Dialogues des Carmélites) with Munich’s Bavarian State Opera; Ježibaba (Rusalka), Fenena (Nabucco), and the Second Lady (Die Zauberflöte) with the Metropolitan Opera; Suzuki (Madama Butterfly) and Marcellina (Le Nozze di Figaro) with Opera Theatre of St. Louis; Emilia (Otello) with the Canadian Opera Company; and roles in Faust and Menotti’s The Last Savage with the Santa Fe Opera. A former member of the Houston Grand Opera Studio, she has performed with that company as Fricka (Die Walküre), Waltraute, Ursula (Béatrice et Bénédict), Giovanna (Rigoletto), and Mrs. Rolandson in the world premiere of André Previn’s Brief Encounter. Recent and upcoming projects include Adalgisa at Houston Grand Opera and Eboli at Washington National Opera.
