201718 Season: Comte des Grieux in Manon

Bass James Creswell made his San Francisco Opera debut in 2013 as Crespel in Les Contes d’Hoffmann and appeared that same season as a Pharisee of Capernaum and Newscaster in the world premiere of Mark Adamo’s The Gospel of Mary Magdalene. He has performed at the Dutch National Opera, Madrid’s Teatro Real, Bilbao Opera, Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Los Angeles Opera, Berlin State Opera, Oper Frankfurt, Theater an der Wien, Opéra de Bordeaux, English National Opera, Welsh National Opera, Opera North, and Berlin’s Komische Oper in roles ranging from Handel to Britten. A 2000 graduate of the Merola Opera Program, Creswell has also appeared frequently on the concert stage, including in Schoenberg’s Gurrelieder for the Hallé Orchestra conducted by Mark Elder and Bach’s St. Matthew Passion at the Cincinnati May Festival under James Conlon.
