2018–19 Season: Plácido Domingo in Concert
Tenor Arturo Chacón-Cruz made his San Francisco Opera debut in 2012 as the Duke of Mantua in Rigoletto, a role he has performed in Oslo, Liège, Mexico City, and Milwaukee. An alumnus of the Merola Opera Program, he has also performed the role of Rodolfo (La Bohème) in San Francisco (2017), Stockholm, and Munich’s Bavarian State Opera; the title role of Les Contes d’Hoffmann with Milan’s Teatro alla Scala and Vienna’s Theater an der Wien; Rodolfo and the title role of Werther in Moscow; Roméo (Roméo et Juliette) with Palm Beach Opera; Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly) with Minnesota Opera; and the title role of Idomeneo in Milwaukee. Other career highlights include Werther in Lyon; Hoffmann with Sweden’s Malmö Opera and in Turin; Rodolfo in Liège; Pinkerton, Alfredo (La Traviata), and Rodolfo with Washington National Opera; Rodolfo in Bologna and Berlin; the title role of Faust in Montpellier, France; Rinuccio (Gianni Schicchi) in Naples; Christian (Cyrano de Bergerac) in Valencia; and Ruggero (La Rondine) with Venice’s Teatro la Fenice. Chacón-Cruz is a graduate of the Houston Grand Opera Studio, and he has appeared with that company in productions of Madama Butterfly, Roméo et Juliette, Manon Lescaut, Mark Adamo’s Lysistrata, and Idomeneo. In the 2017–18 season, he performs Alfredo Germont at Opera di Roma and the Bolshoi Theatre, Rodolfo at the Hamburg State Opera, the Duke of Mantua at Los Angeles Opera and Teatro di San Carlo, Nemorino in L'Elisir d'Amore at Teatro Massimo in Palermo, and Ruggero in La Rondine in Geneva.
