2018–19 Season: Micaëla, Carmen
Romanian soprano Anita Hartig makes her San Francisco Opera debut as Michaëla in Carmen. From 2009–14, Hartig was a member of the ensemble at the Vienna State Opera, where she made her professional opera debut as Musetta in La Bohème. In Vienna, she showcased Pamina in Die Zauberflöte, Despina in Così fan tutte, Zerlina in Don Giovanni, Mimì in La Bohème, Marzelline in Fidelio, Micaëla, and Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro.
In 2013 Hartig made her Royal Opera, Covent Garden debut as Mimì and the following year debuted at the Metropolitan Opera and Opera Bastille in the same role, before going on to make her house and role debuts as Violetta in La Traviata at Gran Teatre del Liceu. Highlights of recent seasons include Susanna at the Metropolitan Opera and Covent Garden; Mimì at the Metropolitan Opera, Vienna State Opera, Teatro Real Madrid, and the Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin, and further appearances at the Metropolitan Opera as Lìu in Turandot. Other notable performances include Marguerite in Faust in Zürich, Vienna and Hamburg, and Antonia and Stella in Les Contes d’Hoffmann at the Metropolitan Opera.
This season Hartig returned to Vienna for Micaëla and performed Violetta at Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse, a role which she will also take on at Metropolitan Opera this spring. Other season highlights include her return to Opéra de Paris as Amelia Grimaldi in Simon Boccanegra and performances of Bruckner’s Mass in F Minor with the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw.
