Chiharu Shibata began her training at the Sumiko Kikuchi school in her birthplace of Sapporo, Japan. Performing classics such as Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, Giselle, and Coppélia with the Japan Ballet Association of Sapporo, at home and in Tokyo, she continued her professional development with the San Francisco Ballet School, performing in that company’s Nutcracker. Shibata performed and collaborated with the acclaimed Alonzo King LINES Ballet for sixteen years.
Invited by Gerald Arpino to perform as a principal dancer with the Joffrey Ballet of Chicago, Shibata appeared in Footnotes for RJ, Viva Vivaldi, Nutcracker, and Light Rain.
Shibata has taught in the LINES Ballet Pre-Professional Program and San Francisco Conservatory of Dance, and in Sapporo.
