2015–16 Season: The Queen of the Night in The Magic Flute
Russian coloratura soprano Albina Shagimuratova made her Company debut as the Queen of the Night in 2012 and returned later that year as Gilda (Rigoletto). In the 2014–15 season, her engagements included Konstanze (Die Entführung aus dem Serail) with Paris Opera, the title role of Lucia di Lammermoor with the Metropolitan Opera, and Donna Anna (Don Giovanni) at the Royal Opera, Covent Garden. Shagimuratova is a graduate of the Houston Grand Opera Studio, and her roles with that company include the Queen of the Night, Gilda, Musetta (La Bohème), and the title role of La Traviata. Career highlights include the Queen of the Night at the Vienna State Opera, Covent Garden, the Met, Milan’s La Scala, Munich’s Bavarian State Opera, and Los Angeles Opera; Lucia di Lammermoor at La Scala, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Los Angeles Opera, and the Bolshoi Theatre; Violetta (La Traviata) in Moscow; Amina (La Sonnambula) and Adina (L’Elisir d’Amore) in Vienna; Gilda with Chicago Opera Theater; and the title role of Manon in Luxembourg.
