2017–18 Season: Chrysothemis in Elektra
Internationally celebrated for her interpretations of Wagner, Strauss, Verdi, and Puccini heroines, Canadian soprano Adrianne Pieczonka made her San Francisco Opera debut in 2009 in the title role of Tosca. In recent years, her portrayal of Chrysothemis in Elektra has taken her to the Metropolitan Opera; Deutsche Oper Berlin; Aix-en-Provence Festival; Royal Opera, Covent Garden; Bavarian State Opera; Milan’s Teatro alla Scala; and the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona. Last season, Pieczonka performed as Leonore in Fidelio at the Metropolitan Opera, Amelia in Un Ballo in Maschera with Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Bavarian State Opera, and Tosca at the Vienna State Opera and Canadian Opera Company. Upcoming highlights include Amelia at the Vienna State Opera and Tosca at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden; Vienna State Opera; and at Dresden’s Semperoper (the latter conducted by Christian Thielemann). In March, Pieczonka will perform the Marschallin in Der Rosenkavalier at the Bavarian State Opera and in a concert version at New York’s Carnegie Hall.
