AWARD-WINNING. INTERACTIVE. IMMERSIVE.
We believe that participation in the performing arts leads to deep appreciation of beauty and diverse points of view. Our programs help young people grow into curious and caring citizens with a strong sense of self and empathy for others.
Through art we better understand others. We walk in their shoes, see differing points of view, gain broader cultural perspective and develop compassion.

Students engage with beloved classics of the repertoire, building confidence and self-expression while exploring a panorama of colorful characters and engaging stories.
Sing a Story is also available for libraries!
Inspiring 12-week residencies bring out the creative artist in all students, allowing them to engage with their curricula, communities and one another in meaningful ways. We can also hold residencies in high school classrooms.
In these intensive, hands-on programs, students develop skills as singers and actors as they rehearse and perform operatic repertoire tailored to fit young voices.
We have brought students to San Francisco Opera since 1939. Over the years, hundreds of thousands of Bay Area students have attended these performances.
Adults and college students attend engaging panels, lectures and backstage tours.
Music knows no borders. We live in a time in which culture divides us, yet culture is also required to heal us. Now, more than ever, the stories we tell, the songs we sing and the beauty we create can unite us beyond the limitations of fear, scarcity and ignorance. In these times, we must expand. We must immerse ourselves in the unknown until it becomes a part of us. Growth happens when we open our hearts and minds to otherness, and we begin to understand others as well as ourselves. Somewhere inside we are all the same. We all desire, fear, love and dream, and hearing each other's stories brings us closer together as human beings.
Let musical storytelling be the bridge that unites cultures and leads to deeper understanding. This year we will:
Celebrate the traditions of other cultures as we sing and musicalize timeless stories.
Delve into language acquisition as we introduce bilingual versions of our programs.
Explore foreign viewpoints and show empathy through thoughtful character development.
Be generous in spirit to those who hold different beliefs, and learn how to disagree while leaving room for opposing ideas.
Look for the Passport to Cultural Understanding in each of our program descriptions to see how all programs relate to cultural understanding.
