What would you choose for your 2015–16 Design Your Own (DYO) Series?
I like new and rarely produced operas, so for my DYO I’d choose 3 operas—Sweeney Todd, The Fall of the House of Usher and Jenůfa.

I’m a big Sondheim fan and Sweeney is one of my favorites. I also love new works and expect the musical contrast between Debussy and Getty in Usher to really suit me!

And Jenůfa, because Janáček composed such gorgeous music, and it’ll be a truly operatic experience to see Karita Mattila in the role of Kostelnička.

What would you choose for your 2015–16 Design Your Own (DYO) Series?
I’d choose 5 operas and I'd start with Luisa Miller for two reasons. Because Opening Night is the most fun you can have at the Opera House—people watching is at its peak! And, Leah Crocetto. She is quickly proving why she is one to watch.

Next, I’d choose Sweeney Todd. As a child I saw Angela Lansbury and George Hearn, and ever since I’ve been addicted to Sondheim.

I’d see Lucia di Lammermoor because it’s one of my all-time favorites. Plus, it’s the costume show to see this season. It has the most spectacular gowns in an array of jewel tones.

Don Carlo would not be missed by me. I’ve been fortunate to see the world's greatest stars perform on our stage, and behind every one of them has stood our incredible San Francisco Opera Chorus. This talented group of singers will blow the roof off of the Opera House in this brilliant Verdi piece.

I’d close my series with Carmen. You think you know Carmen? Well, let me tell you, you have never seen a Carmen like this.

What would you choose for your 2015–16 Design Your Own (DYO) Series?
For my DYO, I’d choose four operas—Verdi’s Luisa Miller, Mozart’s The Magic Flute, Wagner’s Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg and Janáček’s Jenůfa.

With these four operas I’ll get total diversity—a love story, a playful production, a great chorus and a powerful drama. It’s a DYO that goes from A to Z!

What would you choose for your 2015–16 Design Your Own (DYO) Series?
I always enter an opera through its story. So, for My DYO, I’d choose Sweeney Todd, Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, The Fall of the House of Usher and Jenůfa.

The music in Sweeney Todd is amazing and intricate, and the storyline is such an insane thing to focus on. That level of vengeance is incredible. Human meat pies? Really?
Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg reminds me of my father. He was an opera singer, a conductor and a voice teacher; Die Meistersinger was one of his favorites. It's a story about music, musicians and love. Really, it’s a story about our art form.

I’ve realized I have a preference toward serious drama—for darker pieces that explore, in particular, family relationships. That's why I want to see The Fall of the House of Usher. It’s a story that illustrates how often we hurt the ones we love the most. To me that’s real human drama.

I want to see Jenůfa for the same reasons I want to see Usher—it’s a serious piece that explores how we treat the people we're closest to. And it's a hopeful tale of the possibilities of love. Plus, Karita Mattila. She is an unbelievable artist who throws herself into any role she takes on.

What would you choose for your 2015–16 Design Your Own (DYO) Series?
For my DYO, I would choose four operas—Sweeney Todd, Lucia di Lammermoor, Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg and Carmen.

I'd choose Sweeney, because pie is my favorite dessert! Lucia, because I fell in love with Diana Damrau in 2010's The Daughter of the Regiment; Meistersinger because when I go German I go all the way! And Carmen because...I’m a sucker for a femme fatale!

What would you choose for your 2015–16 Design Your Own (DYO) Series?
It’s hard to choose because I’m new to opera and I want to experience everything. So I've selected what I think are the season’s must-see productions—Sweeney Todd, Lucia di Lammermoor, The Magic Flute and Carmen.

Sweeney Todd because it’s a rare opportunity to see this piece on our own stage. It’s Sweeney Todd…the Demon Barber of Fleet Street…what else can you say?!

I've read so many things about Lucia di Lammermoor’s mad scene that Lucia is definitely not to be missed.

I want to see The Magic Flute because it’s Mozart and a Kaneko production. It’s guaranteed to be musically and visually brilliant.

And Carmen, I just can’t wait to hear all the music that I love, that I’ve heard in movies and on television, performed live.
