With the San Francisco Opera Orchestra
Don’t miss your opportunity to see the superstar soprano in this special concert, with the San Francisco Opera Orchestra, presented by San Francisco Opera and Cal Performances at Zellerbach Hall, UC Berkeley. The program includes favorite arias from operas by Puccini and Verdi, as well as songs and works by Giuseppe Giordani, Ernesto di Curtis, Ernesto Lecuona, Leo Delibes, G. Grigoriu and Eduardo di Capua. Romanian soprano Angela Gheorghiu, who made her San Francisco Opera debut as Magda de Civry in 2007’s La Rondine, has impressed critics and audiences with both the beauty of her voice and the depth of her characterizations. The soprano was born in Adjud, Romania and graduated in 1990 from the Bucharest Music Academy. She made her international debut in 1992 at Covent Garden as Mimì (La Bohème) and in the same year made debuts at the Metropolitan Opera and at Vienna State Opera. She has since performed at major opera houses and concert halls throughout the world. Of her San Francisco Opera debut in La Rondine (November 2007), San Francisco Chronicle lauds: “[Gheorghiu's] tone was strong but tender, with an irresistible blend of earthiness and purity, and when she lofted the high notes of 'Chi il bel sogno di Doretta,' her breath control and flawless intonation seemed to make time stand still.” Ms. Gheorghiu returns to San Francisco to sing Mimì in the 2008-09 production of La Bohème.
