Proof of Student or Teacher Status is Required
Providing proof of current status ensures that student and teacher subscribers qualify for the discount. For mail orders, please send proof of status with your order. For phone orders, proof of status must be received within seven days of order placement. All subscription requests are subject to availability.
ID requirements: students enrolled full-time (9 credits or more) in educational institutions can present a dated current class schedule and either a student ID card or current registration card. (In the time between school years, proof of full-time enrollment in the previous or following academic year will be qualifying proof.) Limit two seats per ID. Full- or part-time instructors at accredited educational institutions, and members of the Music Teachers’ Association can present a current school ID, recent pay stub or an MTA membership identification.

Students who attend the Fromm Institute for Lifelong Learning save 40% off regular ticket prices with a Fromm student subscription (proof of Fromm student status is required*). To purchase a subscription, download the order form and call (415) 864-3330 or visit the Box Office in person.
* Proof of status ensures that Fromm subscribers qualify for the 40% discount. Students must provide a copy of a dated current class schedule and either a student ID card or current registration card. For mail orders, please send proof of status with your order. Frequently Asked Questions
How many subscriptions may I buy?
Each student or teacher may purchase one subscription package with up to two seats per ID.
May I sit with my friends?
Yes! Students or teachers who send in their order forms in the same envelope and indicate with whom they would like to sit will be seated together (subject to availability).
What if I cannot attend a performance?
You may give away the ticket, exchange the date or return it to the Box Office as a charitable donation. To donate tickets, please call the Box Office prior to the performance.
May I exchange tickets?
Tickets may be exchanged for another weeknight performance of the same opera only. Any exchanges of student/teacher subscription tickets into weekend performances, even if the original performance was on a weekend, will be made only at regular subscriber prices due to the limited number of discounted seats available. For all subscribers there is a $10 per ticket fee for exchanges made on the day of the performance. The deadline for exchanges is two hours prior to the original performance. To make an exchange, call or visit the Opera Box Office 24 hours prior to the date of the original ticket. Please have your ticket(s) in hand when you call. If you have questions regarding your subscription or exchanges, please contact the Box Office at (415) 864-3330.
Do the Full and Half Series ticket benefits apply to my discounted subscription series?
Sorry, the Full and Half Series early exchange benefit, the Full Series drop-one-opera option, the complimentary ticket upgrade and advance parking opportunity do not apply to Student and Teacher or Fromm discounted subscription series.
When will I receive my tickets?
Tickets will be mailed in early August. Remember, your order is not complete until we have received a copy of your proof of status (current student ID and schedule, or union card or pay stub).
Can I subscribe online?
Because we need to validate your student or teacher status, Student and Teacher subscriptions are not available online.
Student Rush tickets, when offered for evening performances, go on sale online and at the Opera Box Office at 11am on the day of the performance. When offered for matinees, rush tickets are sold only in person, starting at 11am on the day of the performance. Rush tickets will be available to anyone presenting a valid student ID in his or her own name. Tickets are $27 apiece and must be purchased either in person or online (if registered in advance). Teachers and MTA members do not qualify for Student Rush tickets.
