Joseph Calver relocated to the Bay Area from Marylebone, London in August 2009. He took his first degree in music at the University of Bristol, where he held the University Organ Scholarship. On graduating with First Class Honors he moved to Oxford to earn his Master’s. Joseph is currently reading for a doctorate in musicology at Stanford University. His principal research interests include German opera, Modernism, “classic” Hollywood film music and musicals. Having made his company debut as pre-performance speaker for Cyrano de Bergerac (2010-11), Joseph returns to San Francisco Opera for a second season.
