French director Vincent Boussard makes his San Francisco Opera debut with a production he directed at Munich’s Bavarian State Opera. After debuting as a stage director at the Studio Theatre of the Comédie-Française in 1999, Boussard has staged, among others, Dido and Aeneas (Les Arts Florissants); Handel’s Theodora (Liceo Salamanca and Ariaga Bilbao); Il Re Pastore (Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie, Innsbruck Festival, Grand Théâtre de Luxembourg, Teatro Sociale di Como, Teatro Fraschini di Pavia); Eliogabalo by Cavalli (Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie, Innsbruck Festival); Così fan tutte (Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie); Menotti’s Maria Golovin (Marseilles Opera, Spoleto Festival [Italy], Amazonas de Manaus Festival); Don Giovanni (Innsbruck Festival, Baden-Baden Festival); Mernier’s Frühlingserwachen (Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie, Opéra National du Rhin); Le Nozze di Figaro (Aix-en-Provence Festival, Grand Théâtre de Luxembourg); Laserna’s El Pozo de Esteve and La Leccion de Musica (Festival de Teatro Clasico, Almagro); Pasquini’s Il Sant'Agnese by Pasquini (Innsbruck Festival); and Handel’s Floridante (Handel Festival Halle). Recent and upcoming engagements include Louise at the Opéra National du Rhin, Hamlet at Marseille Opera, Agrippina and Candide at the Berlin State Opera, Dido and Aeneas at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Carmen at the Stockholm Opera, Adriana Lecouvreur at Frankfurt Opera, Salome at the Theater St. Gallen, La Finta Giardiniera at the Aix-en-Provence Festival, and Madama Butterfly at Hamburg State Opera. In collaboration with William Christie, Vincent Boussard has been involved several times in the young artists' program of Les Arts Florissants, the Jardin des Voix. Furthering his commitment towards young singers, he has also collaborated with opera studios at the Escuela Reina Sofia in Madrid, at the Vlaamse Opera Studio in Ghent, at the Chapelle Musicale Reine Elisabeth in Brussels, and at the Opera Studio of Lyon Opera.
