Born in Connecticut, Brook Broughton left home at an early age to pursue her interest in ballet. She trained at Walnut Hill School for the Performing Arts in Massachussets, School of American Ballet in New York City, and under Truman Finney at both Hartford Ballet and Pacific Northwest Ballet schools.
Ms. Broughton has worked with many professional ballet companies including Hartford Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet, State Ballet of Missouri, and Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre. She most recently spent 6 years dancing with San Francisco Ballet from 1997-2003 where she performed many ballets contemporary and classical and originated roles with numerous choreographers including Helgi Tomasson, Yuri Possokhov, Julia Adam, Alexei Ratmansky, and Mark Morris.
Brook began dancing with the San Francisco Opera in 2005, her first season including a career highlight, the premiere of John Adams' Dr. Atomic. In 2006 she was contracted as a Principal dancer, performing the 2nd Act pas de deux from Die Fledermaus. Other memorable seasons at SF Opera since then have included Samson and Delilah, Tannhauser, Iphegenie, La Forza del Destino, Joan of Arc, The Rake’s Progress, and La Traviata.
A mother to Grace 6, and Xavier, 2, she spends her time balancing mothering with pursuing her dance career, which also includes teaching and freelancing when possible.
