Suzanne Hendrix

Suzanne Hendrix made her San Francisco Opera debut as Schwertleite in the 2010 production of Die Walküre. She is an alumna of the 2009 Merola Opera Program, where she sang the roles of Mary (Der Fliegende Holländer) and Baba (The Medium) in Merola’s summer concert. A former apprentice artist with Des Moines Metro Opera, the contralto’s roles include Ma (Copland’s The Tender Land), Zita (Gianni Schicchi), the Princess (Suor Angelica), and Florence Pike (Albert Herring). Among her recent engagements is Mercédès (Carmen) with Wichita Grand Opera. On the concert stage, Hendrix has appeared as a soloist in Duruflé’s Requiem, Britten’s Rejoice in the Lamb, and Handel’s Messiah, among others. She holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree from the University of Northern Iowa and is currently pursuing a doctorate at the University of Missouri, Kansas City.
