Serena Farnocchia

A native of Lucca, Italy, soprano Serena Farnocchia makes her San Francisco Opera debut in a role she has previously performed in Geneva. Winner of the 1995 Luciano Pavarotti Competition, the soprano is a graduate of the Opera Studio of Milan’s La Scala. Her career highlights include Mimì (La Bohème) at La Scala, Rome’s Teatro dell'Opera, the Torre del Lago Festival, the Santa Fe Opera, and Lyric Opera of Chicago; Leonora (Il Troavtore) in Lausanne, Parma, and Dresden; Amelia Grimaldi (Simon Boccanegra) at Venice’s Teatro La Fenice and in Trieste and Seville; the title role of Luisa Miller in Piacenza, Essen, Toronto, and Munich; Alice Ford (Falstaff) in Lausanne, Tokyo, Florence, and Rome; Liù (Turandot) at the Torre del Lago Festival, the Santa Fe Opera, and Lyric Opera of Chicago; and the title role of Maria Stuarda in Toronto. Other credits include Adalgisa (Norma) with Helsinki Opera; the title role of The Bartered Bride with Bologna’s Teatro Comunale di Bologna; Desdemona (Otello) in Geneva and Dresden; Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte) with Helsinki Opera, Grand Thèatre de Gèneve, and at Suntory Hall in Tokyo; Donna Anna (Don Giovanni) at La Scala, the Staatstheater Stuttgart, and in Turin and Tokyo; Countess Almaviva (Le Nozze di Figaro) at La Scala and in Tokyo and Florence; Micaëla (Carmen) at the Savonlinna Festival and in Tel Aviv; and the title role of The Merry Widow in Salerno.
