Joseph Barron

A winner of the 2011 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, Joseph Barron makes his San Francisco Opera debut in The Gospel of Mary Magdalene. In the 2012–13 season, he has appeared as Monterone (Rigoletto), Masetto (Don Giovanni), Geronimo (Il Matrimonio Segreto), the Bonze (Madama Butterfly), and Alidoro (La Cenerentola) with Pittsburgh Opera. Other recent engagements include Ramfis (Aida), Grandpa Moss (The Tender Land), and Antonio (Le Nozze di Figaro) at the Glimmerglass Festival; Polyphemus (Acis and Galatea) at the Aix-en-Provence Festival and Venice’s La Fenice; and Montano (Otello) with Opera Philadelphia. A winner of top prizes at the Opera Index Vocal Competition, the Gerda Lissner International Vocal Competition, and the Irma M. Cooper Opera Columbus Vocal Competition, Barron’s upcoming engagements include his Metropolitan Opera debut in Shostakovich’s The Nose, Leporello (Don Giovanni) with Opera Philadelphia, the Speaker (The Magic Flute) and the Prophet/Larry King (Muhly’s Dark Sisters) with Pittsburgh Opera.
