Jo Davies

British director Jo Davies makes her San Francisco Opera debut this season with a production she has led at Houston Grand Opera and English National Opera. Having trained at Bristol University and at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York, her operatic credits most recently include Gilbert and Sullivan’s Ruddigore for Opera North in the U.K.; Le Nozze di Figaro with London’s Classical Opera Company; The Bartered Bride, The Cunning Little Vixen, and The Rape of Lucretia for London’s Royal College of Music; and La Fanciulla del West for Opera Holland Park. Davies has also worked extensively for English National Opera; the Royal Opera, Covent Garden; the Royal National Theatre; Royal Shakespeare Company; and in London's West End. Her theatrical engagements include The Winters Tale at the Royal National Theatre and the Royal Shakespeare Company; Mary Stuart at the Donmar Theatre and in the West End; Bugsy Malone at the Queens Theatre; Charlie Lavender at the Southwark Playhouse; Henry IV, Part 3 at Birmingham Repertory Theatre; Control Freaks at Battersea Arts Centre; and Medea and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang in the West End and on Broadway.
