Jamie Barton

A winner of the 2007 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, the 2013 BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Competition, and a Grammy nominee, mezzo-soprano Jamie Barton makes her San Francisco Opera debut in a role she recently sang at the Metropolitan Opera. Her engagements in the current season include Giovanna Seymour (Anna Bolena) with Lyric Opera of Chicago, Fricka (Die Walküre) with Houston Grand Opera, and performances with the orchestras of Atlanta, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, and Toronto. Other career highlights include Meg Page (Falstaff) at Japan’s Saito Kinen Festival; Magdalene (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg) and roles in Les Contes d’Hoffmann, Boris Godunov, and Ariadne auf Naxos with Lyric Opera of Chicago; Grandma Josephine and Mrs. Teavee (The Golden Ticket) with Atlanta Opera; the Second Norn (Götterdämmerung) and Mère Marie (Dialogues des Carmélites) with Munich’s Bavarian State Opera; the Second Lady (Die Zauberflöte) with the Metropolitan Opera; Suzuki (Madama Butterfly) and Marcellina (Le Nozze di Figaro) with Opera Theatre of St. Louis; Emilia (Otello) with the Canadian Opera Company; and roles in Faust and Menotti’s The Last Savage with Santa Fe Opera. A former member of the Houston Grand Opera Studio, her roles with that company include Ursula (Béatrice et Bénédict), Giovanna (Rigoletto), and Mrs. Rolandson in the world premiere of Previn’s Brief Encounter. Future projects include returns to the Metropolitan Opera and Houston Grand Opera and debuts at the Royal Opera, Covent Garden; Oper Frankfurt; Deutsche Oper Berlin; Los Angeles Opera; and Washington National Opera, all in leading roles.
