James Creswell

American bass James Creswell is an alumnus of the Merola Opera Program who makes his Company debut this summer. As a former resident artist with Los Angeles Opera, his roles with that company include Angelotti (Tosca), the Speaker (Die Zauberflöte), Titurel (Parsifal), Basilio (Il Barbiere di Siviglia), and Daland (Der Fliegende Holländer), among others. Since becoming an ensemble member of the Komische Oper Berlin in 2004, he has performed a number of roles there, including Sarastro (Die Zauberflöte), Prince Gremin (Eugene Onegin), and the title role of Le Nozze di Figaro. Other career highlights include Rocco (Fidelio) with Frankfurt Opera, Escamillo (Carmen) and Capulet (Roméo et Juliette) in Bilbao, Timur (Turandot) and the title role of Der Fliegende Holländer with English National Opera, and Fasolt (Das Rheingold) and Oroveso (Norma) for the U.K.’s Opera North. He appears as a Pharisee in this summer’s world premiere of The Gospel of Mary Magdalene.
