Giorgio Berrugi

Italian tenor Giorgio Berrugi makes his San Francisco Opera debut in a role he has sung at Treviso’s Teatro Comunale, Venice, Jesi, Turin, and Fermo. He has been a member of Dresden’s Saxon State Opera since 2010, and his role there include Don José (Carmen), Gustavus III (Un Ballo in Maschera), Cavaradossi (Tosca), Nemorino (L’Elisir d’Amore), and Gennarino in the world premiere of Henze’s Gisela. Other credits include Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly) in Venice, Ismaele (Nabucco) in Verona, Nemorino in Florence, the Duke of Mantua (Rigoletto) with Milan’s La Scala on tour in Tokyo, and Alfredo (La Traviata) in Seoul. As former solo clarinetist with Rome’s Orchestra Sinfonica he won several international awards, both as a soloist and with the Duo Alban Berg.
