David Pittsinger

American bass-baritone David Pittsinger made his San Francisco Opera debut in 1987 as the Second Armored Man in Die Zauberflöte. An alumnus of the Merola Opera Program, he has performed nine other roles with the Company, including Dr. Grenvil (La Traviata), Luther (Les Contes d’Hoffmann), the King (Aida), Pistola (Falstaff), Lodovico (Otello), and Melisso (Alcina). His recent engagements include creating the role of Eugene O’Neill in the world premiere of A Blizzard at Marblehead Neck with Glimmerglass Opera; Count des Grieux (Manon) with the Metropolitan Opera (also internationally broadcast in HD); King René (Iolanta)and Virgil’s Ghost (Francesca da Rimini)at the Theater an der Wien; and Count Almaviva (Le Nozze di Figaro) with Portland Opera. Pittsinger can be heard on the Grammy Award-winning recording of Susannah (Virgin Classics) and Cavalli’s La Calisto (Harmonia Mundi).
