A native of Vaasa, Finland, Camilla Nylund makes her San Francisco Opera debut in a role she has performed in Budapest, Dresden, Vienna, and Cologne. The soprano’s recent career highlights include Rosalinde (Die Fledermaus), Leonore (Fidelio) and the title roles of Salome, Ariadne auf Naxos, and Arabella with the Vienna State Opera; Elisabeth (Tannhäuser) at the Bayreuth Festival, San Diego Opera, Berlin State Opera, and in Cologne, Munich, and Baden-Baden; Irene (Rienzi) at Deutsche Oper Berlin; Leonore in Zurich; Chrysothemis (Elektra) and Elisabetta (Don Carlos) in Amsterdam; Salome with Paris Opera and in Valencia, Toulouse, and Cologne; Marie/Marietta (Die Tote Stadt) in Helsinki; Arabella in Frankfurt; the title role of Rusalka at the Salzburg Festival; and Countess Almaviva with Berlin State Opera. A former member of Dresden’s Saxon State Opera, her many roles with that company include Elisabeth, the Marschallin (Der Rosenkavalier), Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), Rosalinde, Agathe (Der Freischütz), Pamina (Die Zauberflöte), Anne Trulove (The Rake’s Progress), the Countess (Capriccio), and the title roles of Daphne, The Merry Widow, Euryanthe, The Bartered Bride, and Arabella. Nylund can be heard on CD labels such as Hänssler, Deutsche Grammophon, CPO, Harmonia Mundi, Koch/Schwann, Opus 111, and Ondine. Upcoming engagements include Rusalka in Barcelona and Geneva, Sieglinde (Die Walküre) and Salome in Vienna, and Elsa and Ariadne in Frankfurt.
