Anja Kampe

Anja Kampe makes her San Francisco Opera debut as Sieglinde, a role she has performed at Los Angeles Opera and Washington National Opera. The German soprano’s recent engagements include Liza (The Queen of Spades) with Frankfurt Opera; Giorgetta (Il Tabarro) and Carlotta Nardi (Das Gezeichneten) with Los Angeles Opera; Senta (Der Fliegende Holländer) at Munich’s Bavarian State Opera, the Royal Opera, Covent Garden, and in Brussels, Tokyo, Dusseldorf, and Madrid; Isolde (Tristan und Isolde) at the Glyndebourne Festival; Elisabeth (Tannhäuser) at the Vienna State Opera; and Kundry (Parsifal) in Barcelona. A graduate of La Scala’s young artist program in Milan, her engagements with that company include Javotte (Die Frau ohne Schatten), the Marchesa (Un Giorno di Regno), Leonora (Oberto), and roles in Armida and Die Frau ohne Schatten. Kampe’s other career highlights include the title role of Jenůfa in Antwerp; Leonore (Fidelio) at the Glyndebourne Festival, Los Angeles Opera, and in Madrid, Baden-Baden, Strasbourg, and Reggio Emilia; Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni) at Venice’s Teatro La Fenice and Washington National Opera; Elsa (Lohengrin) in Trieste; Odabella (Attila) in Trier; the title role of Ariadne auf Naxos in Madrid and Munich; Freia (Das Rheingold) and Gerhilde (Die Walküre) at the Bayreuth Festival; Eva (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg) in Essen; Fiorilla (Il Turco in Italia) at the Metz Opéra, the Theatre of Rennes, and the Opéra in Nantes; Ännchen (Der Freischütz) with New Israeli Opera; and Zerlina (Don Giovanni) in Metz.
