In the summer of 2007, San Francisco Opera introduced OperaVision, an innovative way to give balcony audiences a better view of the stage. OperaVision screens, hung from the ceiling of the balcony section, provide close-up and mid-range ensemble shots in high-definition video. Supertitles are shown at the bottom of each screen.
We present OperaVision at three performances of each opera production. All Ring performances will have OperaVision. OperaVision is available to latecomers on high-definition monitors in lounge areas of the Lower Lobby and the North Box Bar.
OperaVision performances are marked throughout our website with a small starburst by the selected performance dates.
"The impact of the screens was absolutely amazing and transformative for me…I could enjoy the scale of the performance as I always do, and really hear the voices…but for the first time from that great distance I could actually see the acting."
–Audience member in the balcony section, Don Giovanni, June 2007
