Book to Bravo! (Grades 7-9)

Give your students the chance to create their own opera. They’ll be enchanted during every aspect as they plot, stage, compose and even perform their opera in front of the entire school! Book to Bravo! is a seasonal residency (offered in fall or spring) in which a team of Opera Guild teaching artists come to your classroom and help students create an original opera based on a myth or folk tale rooted in you curriculum.
Our artists teach the basics of performance storytelling, libretto writing and simple composition. The opera will then be cast, rehearsed and performed at your school so all students learn how a story becomes an opera and how their very own written piece comes alive on stage. This exciting program serves also as an excellent continuation of our Opera à la Carte program.
SPACE AND TIME
Book to Bravo! is a 10-12 week residency. Opera Guild teaching artists visit your class each week. All work can take place in the classroom with the exception of the last two weeks where a more conducive performance space is preferred. The artists team with the classroom teacher to augment the standard curriculum and move the project forward between visits.
